sections

Structure of the Workshop

The aim of the workshop is to create the Study of Best Practices of Railway e-learning. The experts also will have the opportunity to try out one another’s e-learning training materials and collect ideas or gather praises.

The workshop contains three sections or workgroups:

  • Railway E-learning Platforms
  • Railway E-learning Methodology and Contents
  • How to obtain railway e-learning contents (development and/ or tenders)

In each section there is a moderator. His/her role is to help cooperation among the participants, ask useful questions to move the discussion forward and on the second day present the results of the sections.

Also there is a secretary in each section. His/her role is to take notes of the discussion helping the moderator to present the final results.

In this document some questions can be found. These are just for orientation helping the potential participants to decide which section interests them most. The participants are encouraged to send additional questions or suggestions to the organizers (Zita Ozorak, MAV Baross Gabor Training Centre, email: ozorakz@mav.hu )

About the E-learning presentation (interactive show)…

The Railway E-learning Workshop wishes to be very practical. Best way for being practical is to touch and use, try out railway related e-learning contents during the workshop. That’s why the participants are strongly encouraged to give the organizers access to their e-learning contents either by:

  • Sending links to their e-learning portals
  • Sending CDs that run off-line (the delivery costs will be covered by the Workshop) or
  • Take CDs with them (IT personnel will manage to make them work on the organizers’ computers but there is a risk of incompatibility of course)

In one of the big conference room of the MAV Baross Gabor Training Center several computers will be on stands with real railway e-learning contents running on them. The participant can work around use them collecting ideas, sharing experience.

Railway E-learning Platforms

The main aim of the section is how to choose our e-learning platform and which technical features are need for a good E-learning material creator, structurer, and player.

What are the needs of railway training center?

  • E-learning material creator, structurer, player tools or all together

Talk about which is the best practice or choice for training centers
Some examples for advantages and disadvantages
From SAP Learning Solution system

  • Which critical requirement needs for the e-player, or development tools

Easy to use, online help, after care, screen layer…
SAP LSO content player and it’s features

Which standards should be used:

  • Use the accepted SCORM-Standard web based chapter models or not?

The SCORM-compatible Courses can be imported, and are executable and can be modified (declaration of relations and attributes) to use learning strategies.

  • What kind of advantages have a SCORM type and what are handicaps it has

What kind of e system should we use?

  • Web based – web portal
  • Box e-learning materials, play with CD
  • Integrated e-learning management system
  • Integrated e system and playable CD, DVD together

How to support or developer with our e-platform?

  • Our e-platform should contain the authoring tool
  • What kind of requirement needs for the authoring tools?
    • Easy to use work space
    • Reusable templates for speed up the developing
    • The e-learning test should be created here
  • E-learning authoring tools – what type of authoring tools do you know? What are the most useful, the most effective, the most expensive, the most reliable, or the cheapest solutions?

Reusable learning nets and learning objects

  • A learning net is a collection of learning objects structured by means of directional or undirected relationships, which can be used as training content. Learning net structures allow the authors to prepare the learning content for different learning types.
  • How to create e-learning net and object in the SAP Learning Solution System.
  • May be some practice or simulation about this topic

On-line E-learning repository

  • Why do training centers e-system need this application?
  • How it is work in SAP LSO system, advantages and disadvantages

Railway E-learning Methodology and Contents

The main aim of the section is to find out as much as they can about pedagogical aspects of e-learning and to try to find solutions for railways’ e-learning problems. It would be also very useful to find possible way to international cooperation:

  • How to solve the problems of digital illiteracy, few available computers, lack of e-learning culture etc.?
  • Simulators v/and e-learning – how to decide which to use?
  • New ideas- ways of the future? Use the new developments!
  • How to share our knowledge and experience even better?

  • Network problems and its solutions – what are these?
  • What are those railway related topics that are possible e-learning contents?
  • What can be the railway core knowledge that can be presented on a Common Railway E-learning website?
  • Railway safety related contents
  • Assessment and e-learning
  • What’s type of tests can be used railway e-learning
  • Pre tests,
  • Self cheking tests,
  • Final tests
  • Is there a way for the participants to create e-learning together? What are the fields of international cooperation?
  • Success stories and case studies
  • Results of e-learning related international cooperation like NewTrain project.

How to obtain railway e-learning contents (development and/ or tenders)

The main aim of the section is to test and improve a new tool, the „Decision making tool for IT Based Learning”, which is a small application that helps to decide if a learning content can be developed as an e-learning or not. This application will be sent to every participant. Also the section’s objective to give advice about e-learning development or e-learning tenders:

  • Development of “a decision making tool for IT Based learning”
E-learning do-it-yourself – can railway employees learn how to create e-learning contents? If yes, how?
    • Introduction of MAV’s e-learning developer team and the methodology of their training.
  • E-learning authoring tools – examples on how different tools can be used for “in-house” eLearning production
    • Lectora
    • Coursebuilder
  • Or is it better to teach a non-railway IT company to understand railways?
    • Case study: the creation of F.1. Signaling Instruction e-learning materials: pitfalls of a tender and a possible solution.
  • E-learning tenders – are they useful? What are the most important rules, criteria, pitfalls and problems?
    • What should be decided before a tender competition is started or selection of vendor is concluded?
  • Preparing the experts, dealing with non-railway related IT companies (so called e-learning specialized companies)
  • What to buy and what to develop?

Develop:

  • Traffic control related contents

Buy:

  • IT, ECDL courses

Buy and develop:

    • Railway languages courses
    • Success stories or case studies
